Starting a Business: Otherwise Known as “What Were We Thinking?”

Starting a Business: Otherwise Known as “What Were We Thinking?”

If you’ve ever started a business, you already know it begins with excitement, dreams, and maybe a tiny bit of delusion.

You sit down with your spouse one evening and say something completely reasonable like:
“Hey, you know what would be relaxing? Investing all our money in a CNC plasma cutting system, sacrificing sleep, learning 47 new skills overnight, and riding an emotional rollercoaster fueled entirely by caffeine and prayer.”

And somehow… it sounds like a good idea.

That’s exactly how our journey began.

We started this business because life has a funny way of changing your priorities. A couple of years ago, we went through a difficult season that reminded us just how precious time together really is. We realized that life is too short to spend all your days chasing things that don’t matter. We wanted more time as a family, more purpose in our work, and the chance to build something meaningful together.

So naturally, we decided to start a business.

Simple, right?

Wrong.

Nobody warns you that owning a business means becoming:

  • A welder
  • A designer
  • A photographer
  • A customer service representative
  • A shipping department
  • A social media manager
  • An accountant
  • A website developer
  • And occasionally… a therapist for stressed-out machinery

There have been moments where we stood in the shop staring at equipment thinking,
“Well… that definitely wasn’t supposed to spark like that.”

We’ve had projects come out beautifully…
…and others that looked like they were designed by raccoons with power tools.

We’ve made mistakes. We’ve learned lessons the hard way. We’ve doubted ourselves more than once.

But through every challenge, God has been faithful.

Every opportunity, every order, every encouraging message from a customer has reminded us that this business is bigger than just selling products. It’s about using the talents God gave us to create something meaningful, serve others, and build a life centered around faith and family.

And honestly? Some days the only thing holding this whole operation together is prayer and zip ties.

But somehow, God keeps making a way.

We’ve learned that success doesn’t always look like massive numbers or overnight growth. Sometimes success is simply having the opportunity to work side-by-side with the person you love most. Sometimes it’s hearing a customer say your work meant something to them. Sometimes it’s realizing that even the hard days are blessings in disguise.

This journey hasn’t been easy, but we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

To everyone supporting small businesses like ours: thank you. Every like, share, comment, and purchase means more than you know. You’re helping families pursue dreams that once felt impossible.

And to anyone thinking about starting a business of their own:
Take the leap.
Pray hard.
Expect challenges.
Buy extra coffee.
And remember that God can do amazing things with ordinary people who are willing to trust Him.

Even if they occasionally forget to measure twice before cutting metal.
